Practical Universal Martial Arts (PUMA) is a versatile self-defense system that combines grappling, striking, and weapon techniques to equip practitioners with effective self-defense skills. PUMA was developed by two Kenpo instructors and brothers, Joshua and Joseph Pestaner. Their approach focuses on simplifying traditional techniques and refining core movements, allowing individuals with no prior martial arts experience to become proficient in a shorter period than conventional training methods.
The system integrates insights and techniques from a variety of martial arts practitioners, including Greg Payne, Steve (Sanders) Mohammed, Robert Temple, and Wes Crisotomo, enriching its practical application and effectiveness. By synthesizing diverse methodologies, PUMA offers a comprehensive and accessible path to modern martial arts mastery.
